Trust

I was listening to a television evangelist the other day and he said something about Trust that made me really stop to think about how our relationship with Christ is built on trust.  So many people from childhood, have had their trust broken and find it hard to trust others.   Trust is something that takes time to build once it has been broken.  Unfortunately I think that Christ often has to overcome the barriers of humans when it comes to getting us to trust Him.

Most people want something in advance of asking for trust.


As ambassadors of Christ we need to be careful to be trustworthy people as to no cause harm to others. The foundation of God's Word, our acceptance of Him, is built on trust.

As I thought about this, I thought about the Bible stories that I grew up hearing.  The lives of the saints were built on trust.

 Genesis 2:15-17 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.  And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

In the garden, Adam was asked to trust God.  He gave Adam everything he needed before he ever gave a command. God gave first, then asked Adam to trust Him with the exception.

Genesis 6:9, 12-14 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. 

God built a relationship with Noah and walked with him.  God called him a just and perfect man before he ever asked anything of Noah.

Abraham's story takes place over several chapters from Genesis 11 to 17 where God promises Abraham he would be the father of many nations to Genesis 22 where he was asked to give his son.  Ending in Genesis 26 when Abraham died.  Abraham was asked to leave his city before given a promise.  This small step of trust, led to a bigger step of offer your son.  And in the mean time Abraham did some pretty stupid things, like offering his wife up as his sister.

Ultimately Jesus Christ went to the cross, offering everything without asking anything of us in advance.  He paid the price of everything we would ever do.  All my sin was in the future when Christ died.  And it was finished there on the cross.  He asks me now, will you trust me?
